When it comes to my beauty routine, I’ve always been a lover of convenience. Who doesn’t want a quick and easy way to remove their makeup after a long day or night of partying? Makeup wipes seem like they’re convenient enough, but did they really cut my routine in half? Did just using a makeup wipe actually clean my face? No, they didn’t.

In this blog post, we’re going to explore why I made the conscious choice to stop using makeup wipes and embraced a greener, more skin-friendly alternative: the Konjac Sponge.

I found it inconvenient to repeatedly buy the Neutrogena makeup wipes. I had to add them to my shopping list or make a special trip just for them. This became tiresome and troublesome, especially when packing for a trip.

Not to mention, I wasn’t cutting my beauty cleansing routine in half. I still felt like I had to double cleanse my face, because let’s face it, the residue left on your skin from the wipes doesn’t feel all too great. Your face feels sticky, and you know that it’s just not clean yet.

I thought, ok why don’t I just use little towels that I can reuse instead? But even that wasn’t efficient enough. They’d get stained with makeup, still leave residue, still require using makeup remover and face wash, and were annoying to have to keep cleaning. Plus it made my sink messy.

But one day, I found out about Konjac Sponges, when to my surprise, I received one in the mail as part of a nice Holiday care package my company sent out to employees one year. That’s when I really made the switch.

It was after that, that I truly realized I didn’t need makeup wipes. I realized how problematic makeup wipes were for me, and how they weren’t all that helpful. I thought, these are kind of a pain. Why should I continue to waste money on wipes with chemicals, alcohol, and fragrances that irritate and don’t cleanse well? I end up wasting them after just one use, and they end up in a landfill.

My care package was sitting on the dining room table, beautifully packaged, and ready for me to open. I lifted the top of the box and began to dig inside.

Laying between the crinkle cut paper shreds was a a really cool-looking, black, hard bar with tiny holes in it, wrapped neatly from Japan. On it it said, “Konjac” sponge with instructions on how to use it. How hip. Hmm.

I tried the sponge and was so impressed with how well it cleaned and gently exfoliated. Where has this been all my life?! What a great alternative. I need this in my routine, I thought to myself. They were convenient, effective, and seemed like the perfect solution for my busy lifestyle.

So I began the hunt for Konjac Sponges, and decided to not only sell them to spread the word, but use them myself on a daily basis.

I realized this was the perfect solution, because the following reasons:

B.) use cleanser on my face (NOT the sponge), and then take the wet Konjac Sponge and use it to cleanse away everything, wiping around in circular motions, while rewetting the sponge throughout. OR,

C.) use it with just water for an effective, easy way to cleanse (if you’re not wearing makeup.) This can literally be done on-the-go. It doesn’t have to be in the shower or at your sink, so long as you have water!

This way, I can skip out on the whole “I have to wipe my makeup off with face wipes first.” In the end this saves me so much time, money, and effort. And my face (whether I’m wearing makeup or not), is totally clean.
